SWAN Hill’s skilled migration program will continue. Uncertainty had surrounded the program, with its current round of State Government funding expiring at the end of June.

While the program had been listed in the State Government’s regional blueprint, Swan Hill Rural City Council was waiting on a formal funding deed to finalise plans.

Development and planning director Geoffrey Gray said council had been informed that a funding deed would be received by the end of July, guaranteeing the program's immediate future.

The program - which links skilled migrants with local industry, and saw more than 90 migrants placed in the Swan Hill region last year - will run from council, with existing staff member Nathan Keighran at the helm.

Mr Gray said when done independently or through a business sponsorship, a skilled migrant could wait years to be given permission to enter and work in Australia.

"But it is recognised that, especially for businesses in rural and regional Victoria, that they need workers now," he said. He said, under the program – Global Skills for Provincial Victoria -- migrants could be in Australia in a matter of months, helping to fill skills shortages.

전문인력 이민자를 지역 산업에 연계시켜 작년에 90명 이상의 이민자를 스완힐 지역에 받은 이 프로그램은 의회에서 운영하게 된다. 그레이 씨는 독립적이거나 사업보증을 통한 경우거나 전문인력이 입국하기 위해서는 오랜 기간을 기다려야 한다고 말했다.

“그러나 특별히 농촌과 지역 사업을 위해서는 인력이 당장 필요하다는 사실이 감안되어야 한다”고 강조한다. 그는 -빅토리아 주의 글로벌 전문인력- 프로그램 아래서는 기술인력 부족을 채우기 위하여 몇 개월 안에 호주로 입국할 수 있다 라고 말했다.
